Wiseman Mncube Teases New Mandoza Biopic

Award-winning actor, Wiseman Mncube, is getting Mzansi excited about his next project, as he’s just shared a teaser for the upcoming biopic, “Nkalakatha: The Life of Mandoza”, in which he played the role of the late Kwaito legend.

“The weight of portraying an icon was heavy on my shoulders,” Mncube said via Instagram on Tuesday, 18 July, as he posted the trailer. “I felt a deep responsibility to honour his memory and pay homage to his legacy, and I am honoured to have been chosen for the role,” he added.

While preparing for the role, Mncube visited Zola, a township in Soweto, Gauteng where Mandoza grew up, for a few days to “immerse himself in the culture”, as he told a local publication on Wednesday, 19 July.

“Mpho Tshabalala Mandoza’s wife and Tumelo, his son were actively involved in the process, sharing a wealth of insights,” he added.

The six-part series will premiere on 16 August and promises a dramatisation of the life of music legend, Mduduzi Edmond Tshabala, who is popularly known as Mandoza. Despite having lived a very fulfilled life, the South African icon passed away from cancer in September 2016, at the age of 38 years old.
